لنگ و پاچه‌ي همدان ما را وسط هسته و مسته نكشانيد!!


THE letters from Ian F M Saint-Yves and David Mellor (January 26) prompt me to give some information that might assist the general understanding of the present position in Iran. My work in Iran, from before the revolution in 1979 and over the last two years, gives me some little authority.
In the late 1970s I was conducting seismic surveys relating to the stability of two sites, near the cities of Isfahan and Hamadan, for nuclear power plants. US companies such as Westinghouse were actively engaged and the whole effort was being strongly promoted by the US government. The Germans were also heavily involved. Then, as now, Iran was a major producer and exporter of oil. If, as is now claimed by Bush et al, Iran does not need nuclear plants, why did the US put such pressure on Iran for them in the 1970s? Answer – there was a puppet ruler, the Shah, who was thoroughly disliked by the Iranians with whom I worked.
